Not a Leopard.... But a Cool Picture

LeosAnonymous Sep 27, 2003 08:48 PM

Still messing around with my camera... here is my male albino hognose. This macro came out pretty decent.

Hope we have some snake lovers out here in gecko land.

Enjoy.

I have never seen an albino hog nose before. hes really neat. At first i thought he was a corn snake, then i saw his head.

LeosAnonymous Sep 27, 2003 09:59 PM

Yeah... albino hogs are really awesome snakes, I like them better than any of my balls.

They have actually been around for quite some time, but are still somewhat rare.

Thanks for the comments.

That Hog is just beautiful Ross,

I catch them wild down here easterns and southerns, the latter to show Ranger students the differences between them and pygmy rattlers. I love the whole gambit they go through, primarily the easterns. Puffing up like a cobra, shaking there tail like a rattler. That doesn't work so they musk on you... don't like that so much. When all this fails they flip over and play dead..its hilarious. I've had a couple of the southerns at home, but the wild caughts don't do so well in captivity. Your albinos have definitely sparked my interest.

Tim

Thanks for the compliments Tim... it sounds like you have quite an awesome job. The wc easterns and southerns are definitely notoriously hard to keep in captivity, they don't want much to do with a mouse.

I have to agree with you about the about all the bluffing, the captives don't play dead very often, but there is one hell of a funny site to watch this 6 inch "worm" hood up like a cobra and hiss like nobodies business. Lots of bark, but thankfully no bite =)

I have seen a couple captive westerns that played dead when offered a pinky... how funny of a site is that? "Maybe if I play dead my food will leave me alone" lol!

You should pick yourself up a cb western if nothing else... they really are a joy to keep.

That is a real nice hognose you got there. Wish I could afford an albino. Have you seen the leucistic ones, those are really nice as well. I can just put those up on my list with a genetic stripe, and clown bp too I guess...lol...

Yeah I was in love with them... lol

All the lucys got seized because the founding animal was originally collected in Colorado (which is very illegal). I personally know at least one breeder that had his house raided over this issue, we are talking about officers with automatic weapons and bullet proof vests here. The fellow that collected the orignal lucy is sitting in jail as we speak, he told everyone he collected it in New Mexico.

But anyways, I'm starting a project headed for the next best thing... snow hogs. A white hognose with red eyes is pretty cool too. =) I'll also be producing some albino's this coming season with any luck. Fun fun fun.

Can a 7lb boa eat a 4lb dog? Too close for comfort I guess.

Cujo will bite the hell out of anyone's ankles that steps a foot in our place, lol. She is actually quite a good guard dog.

Heck, I think I have a black Pine snake that might be able to snarf "Fang" down. LOL

I saw one even smaller today - my son and I were at the Renaissance fair near the Twin Cities, when we saw this Yorkshire puppy. Honestly, it was about the size of a medium rat. Cute and possibly dinner for a hungy colubrid!!!

Yeah... Holly brought Cujo with us to pick up our rats one day and the breeder still likes to poke fun at me every week since. They are tiny little things.
