Northern Pine Eggs!!

tortlemon Feb 10, 2011 05:49 PM

This 2007 female has definitely not been with any other snake(let alone a male)since the day she hatched. I was going to wait another year to breed her. I went to feed her today and this is what I found! Four look good(so far). Anyone else ever had that experience?

Holy cow! The immaculate conception? Sure hope they hatch, that would be epic!

Very cool. There is a fella on the foums who says this happens quite frequently. I wont say his name but his inititals are Frank Retes. He proves to be right on out in left field matters with irritating frequency. This might be another. Four of those eggs do indeed look good. If they hatch it'll be interesting to see the sex ratios. If parthogenetic they should all be female.

As far as I know, Parthenogenic pines would be breaking news. I've also not heard of pines laying eggs this early. I wish you the best with those 4 good looking eggs. But I'd be surprised if they hatched. I've had pines that mated lay good looking eggs that eventually went bad. I suggest you candle the eggs & see if you see any blood vessels. Even if you don't, I'd keep them until they go bad. I never toss an egg until its obviously bad.
