Green Tree Snakes, Blue Phase??

SnowBirdArt Feb 11, 2011 02:18 PM

Not green tree pythons, but the common tree snakes but in Blue Phase. They're an Australian snake and fairly popular there as pets.. thing is, I can't find a breeder in the US. Anyone know of one? And if not, is it possible to ship a snake from Australia to here? How much would this cost, and what about procedures?

And would you think this would be a popular snake if there were more of them? I think they're quite beautiful. And from what I can tell, people love them over there. I toy with the idea of breeding them if it's possible to get one over here.

I don't know anyone personally that works with Green Tree snakes (Dendrelaphis punctulata), but you might try going over to the "Racers and Coachwhips" forum to see if anyone over there works with them here in the states. You are bound to get more traffic and replies regarding them than on this forum.

Good luck!

My understanding is that Australia has some of the most restrictive wildlife export laws in the world. Basically, no legal export of ANY animal except to zoos and they have to agree not transfer the animals they get or their offspring to anyone else.

As a result, very few Australian species are available in the pet trade and some that are are legally questionable because they could only have originated from illegally exported ancestors.

A few species that were exported before these laws went into effect are available (blue tongued skinks, bearded dragons, scrub pythons).

Well, that would explain why I can't find any in the US haha. Thank you for answering.
