recommend any books, not husbandry?

bam171bam Feb 15, 2011 04:47 PM

I know it's not really directly related to ball pythons, but I am having a hard time finding some good books to read. I thoroughly enjoyed the snake catcher and the lizard king. I have all the husbandry and identification books i could ever need. Can anyone recommend any good books they have read?

Thanks
Jason

I recently read the book titled Mean and Lowly Things, by Kate Jackson.
Its about a trip to the congo, to study the reptiles and amphibians there.
I found it a brilliantly written book, and was pretty cheap thru Amazon.
I ended up buying, as it came up as an extra to buy, when i purchased the Lizard King.

cheers

Check out "Stalking the Plumed Serpent", by D. Bruce Means. In it, the author chronicles his real life herping adventures.

"The Snake Charmer", by Jamie James, is also an interesting read. It's the true story of Dr. Joe Slowinski and his ill-fated expedition into the jungles of Burma.

I recently read "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo" trilogy and really liked all of those books. Also, anything I have ever read by Harlan Coben I have enjoyed; especially his Myron Bolitar character series. Myron has a very sarcastic sense of humor which is right up my alley. Lastly, although an older book, I am currently enjoying Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

Just some thoughts. Good luck.

Harlan Coban is really fund to read. I read "Just One Look", and couldn't put it down.

As long as we're completely off topic, though, the two best books I've read in the recent past are "Shantaram", and "Cutting for Stone".

I'll bite. I've been working my way through the "The Best American..." series. They have The Best American Short Stories, Sci Fi and Fantasy, Sports writing, Poetry, Travel essays, Sciences and Nature essays, and probably more. I've found this is a great way to find new authors to read since most of the people who submit stories or essays write novels and scientific papers as well.
