New to collareds...

Conrad Sep 27, 2003 10:36 PM

My wife just picked up a trio of collared lizards at a reptile show. I've never really worked with lizards as far as breeding and stuff goes. Is breeding difficult? How do I go about cycling them, or is it even necessary? Thanks.

You will enjoy them. Its not to difficult, I have 6 more eggs incubating right now. But there are things that you have to do to prepare, yes. Here is a site of a forum buddy Will Wells, has alot of info and some very nice pictures as well, when you get there scroll down left side to CAPTIVE CARE, should help.

Thanks, I'm gonna check out the site and see what I can do. I've always thought they were interesting lizards, but have always had my time tied up in my snakes. Well, now I got em, so hey, wish me luck! Thanks.

but become very friendly with daily handling. They are beautiful lizards that come in many different colors( designer lizards,)
gorgeous colors, and different species also. Once your into them, thats it your done, HOOKED !!! LOL we are all there, hahhaha, I have different lizards, but also started few years back with one male collared, then a female, then other species of collared. Now I have MANY ! Love them all, great pets. Cute hatchlings !! :P Eve

I'm hoping that I have good luck with them too. If they are as addicting as my snakes have been, then we'll see what kind of collection I have in a couple of years! Thanks for the info again, I think it will be of major use.

I like snakes, very cool, like holding them, Amazing creatures. But never owned them other than garter snakes( young). Because everything they have to eat I have had in my lifetime as pets, and "can not feed them little critters". Some of my larger lizards get cooked chicken, but thats it ! Eve

Blue beauties, false water cobras, Redtail green ratsnakes, corns, russian ratsnakes, Greenish ratsnakes, Tanzanian house snakes(brown), Nambian house snakes, Eastern hognose, Garters, ribbons, chacoan watersnake, amel black rat, T- amel radiated ratsnakes, a copperhead, a red mole king, tiger ratsnakes, and my green vine snake. Then we have the lizards: The collareds, frilleds, desert spiny(looking for info on), long nose leopard(looking for info on), and the beardies. I just came up with a generalized list, as to lable male/female ratios with the different color morphs and all that I have would take forever! And I'm picking up a pair of Kunisar island ratsnakes next weekend. I used to have some monitors, but they were just too much hastle needing to be fed all the time, I couldn't afford it. So what all do you have, including collared subspecies?

You've got quite a few "leggies" there.(my term for legged reptiles) I've been looking around and have been wondering how much chance one could find a reticulated collared? Probably slim huh? And yeah, I've got a lot of snakes. I'm supposed to be picking up a pair of Kunisar Island ratsnakes this weekend. Hopefully my hibernating goes well and I have a good turn out next spring, maybe even through a few collareds myself. Would also like to breed the leopard lizards, but I can't find an ounce of info on them! Errrr...

Do you sell the snakes, or just keep them all as pets? Just wondering, so many! As far as the riticulated collared, geesh don't know where you would find one. Never see them. Shame. I like the C. Nubrius also, may look into a pair later. I love my C. Vestiguim, very cool looking lizards.
As far as your leopards are they not just set up and basically same care as collareds? I don't think you have to change that much for breeding. I also like them. Females are so very pretty when gravid. Well it sure has been interesting. I look forward to many more talks, and good luck with the new snakes that are coming this weekend. Love to see some pics sometime, maybe you and your wife can email me some snake pics when you have time. Eve
