really...they should be in at least a ballroom raxx size (boaphile)...the boxes are 34 inches long..don't know gallon/qt size......

..28 qt are not really big enough,,, but they will work...

...you want them glades' big...LOL....actually I have a hypo black that is taking up alot of space in a 34 inch box....

...good luck....

If your going to cages and away from racks a 3x1x1 cage id OK, but a 4x2x2 is ideal for even the largest rats. When I had my boas the bottom cages were always reserved for my big adult racks. The 6ft leucy rat adults sure did love it.... I actually felt bad putting them back into a cb70 rack when the boas went.

I guess it depends on what rats you plan on holding onto and how much room you have to fit them into. But I like the 4x2x2 myself.

bottoms were reserved for the adult RATS....not racks

Count on the fact that certain Breeders & Malcontents will *RUSH* to condemn my words, but for the animal's sake this is the minimum size.

Think of yourself living in a closet. Would a 10-gallon or 20-gallon terrarium really do for a snake over 3 feet long? Like you, they need space, movement and a chance to exercise.

Live feeding goes along way to help that condition...

Here is a link to some photos of my 60-gallon, naturalistic setups. I have a 100-gallon also, but it's quite cumbersome to move up stairs.

I like to create 3 tiers for my Kingsnakes: thick bedding for tunneling, ground level with hide spots, canopy level with climbing branches.

For Rat Snakes, I use the last two levels. They don't seem to care much for burrowing, and are not likely as fossorial.

Hope this helps!

hardly anyone still tells people to use 20 longs for adult rats anymore I think (at least I haven't seen it lately).
Even the basic CB 70 tubs are 34x14 or so (versus 30x10). They're shorter and a bit wider than a normal 55 gallon tank's footprint.

Thanks to everyone who commented on my inquiry! I've been thinking about some cages that are 47"X23"X12" for my everglades and russian rats and 35"X23"X12" for my okeetees. Jeff
