Eating after Brumation?

cowboyfromhell Feb 18, 2011 12:15 PM

Hello everybody. I first have to say this Hognose forum is great! I have learned tons just reading through old posts.
There have been alot of posts about eating issues, but none that deal with post-brumation eating.
I have a pair of long term wild caught westerns (2 years) that have mostly ate well on frozen thawed rodents. The female had fasted for a few weeks last year but resumed with no problem.
I brumated at mid 50's from Dec. 1st. to Feb. 5th. It's going on 2 weeks now and no interest what so ever from either of them.
Has anyone had this issue? Most of what I've heard is that after brumation, they are very willing to eat. Also if they continue to fast, will this ruin any chances of breeding?
I have them caged separatly: one in 10 gallon and one in 24" Neodesha. Both with one hide and a hot side of high 80's and a low side of mid 70's (has a approx. 10 degree drop at night).
Thanks for any info!

Hot side should be in the low 90s and ambient air about 80 and the female at least should start eating. Male may wait until after he has bred. Mike

I agree with Mike... You are keeping them way too cool.. Bump those temps... I keep the hot side between 92 and 95 and the cool side never drops below 80... No problem feeders here... the ones I kept up fed all winter long...

Ok, that's an easy fix. I'll adjust temps tonight and give them a few days and see what happens. Thanks for the quick responses!
