the dreaded tub size question

SteveinIL Feb 20, 2011 05:57 PM

if my females are under 3000 grams would it be ok to breed them in the iris tubs which are 22-1/2" x 14-3/4" x 5-3/8" h? I think thats approx 28 qts? I know sterilite changes their designs every several years so I'm a bit hesitant to order a sterilite rack that holds the 15/32qt tubs. I'm looking into purchasing several racks at once to try to get a discount so I'll be getting a hatchling rack as well. I'm not sure at what point I would need a cb70/41qt rack as well. Trying to balance hobbyist part of me that drew me to snakes but still be somewhat profitable or at worst cover my costs. Any and all advice would be appreciated. If I do end up getting a sterilite rack would I possibly be able to avoid the need of the cb70/41qt tubs? Sorry if I rambled here but I've been trying to think this through for at least the past month and keep getting contradicting advice so I'm trying to get a larger sample size to pull from I guess. I'll stop typing now.
thanks,
Steve

I have a Vision Rack that is 11 levels. I have 6 levels of V70 tubs and 5 levels (10 tubs) of V35 tubs. I don't think breeding should take place in anything under a cb70/v70/41qt tub because IMO, snakes need to be able to get space from one another if needed. I keep my males and small, stubborn females in the V35 tubs, as well as the work well for hatchlings. The great thing about the vision racks is that you can rewire your heat cables to whatever design you need. And I ordered it as a V70 rack, and bought the V35 tubs later. I like the sizes much better than the AP 32/15 qt rack I had before.

And if you do get a sterilite rack, I would order all the tubs you could ever want for the rack for the reason they keep changing them. Another reason why I like my Vision...

I used cardboard to insulate mine, I had problem of too much airflow, and too cold of tubs. So I added a second heat cable and cardboard insulation.
