"Head Wobble" is a side effect associated w/the spider morph! A lot of them have it and is not considered detrimental to the animal!

It is also associated with the Woma Ball Pyhthon.

Some spider ball pythons carry the genetics for a head wobble or spin. They just spin their heads around and kinda go crazy, but alot of them don't have this trait. It is also common in jaguar carpet pythons. I have had both species as pets and the spider ball showed no wobble, but the jaguar does alot of it.

"Some spider ball pythons carry the genetics for a head wobble or spin".
ALL spider carry the genetics for a head wobble or "spin".
As well, ALL spiders exhibit some form of "wobble" "stargazing" or corkscrewing" to some degree regardless of the hooey some breeders would like you to believe.

But many of them can live with it and have no issues. My spider BARELY has it. The only time I notice it is if I am trying to "pose" him for a picture and I flip him over for a belly shot. It takes him a second to figure out he is upside down and roll back over. Other than that, he's perfectly fine.

well yah they all do carry the genetics for it, but not all of them exhibit it. my spider ball does not spin at all

mykee Feb 22, 2011 09:00 PM

Ha! Join the club. All the big breeders say the smae thing. ALL spiders exhibit the gene in some way for wobble/stargaze/corkscrew.
Some animals just exhibit it worse than others.

I have a female Spider that has NEVER exhibited ANY kind of wobble/spinning/star-gazing! NEVER!

This debate is so silly. Have you seen EVERY spider ball python? All of them? Every single one? Then how can you possibly say that ALL of them spin, stargaze, or wobble? I've got a female that has NEVER done any of those things. I had two males from the same clutch (not from said female), one who stargazed a slight amount, and one that just didn't. I know plenty of other breeders and keepers who also own animals that don't exhibit that stuff. If you want to say that every one YOU'VE seen had it, that's fine, then say that. But you just can't lump in all the ones you haven't seen.

That would certainly explain those random noises coming from the snake room the other night...

mykee Feb 24, 2011 08:23 PM

lol...
Thankfully there is at least another breeder out there who has not been suckered in with all the clever marketing the spiders have received over the years.

Thankfully, there's a guiding light like you out there, who having obviously produced, or at the very least, carefully observed EVERY spider ball ever produced, can show us the way. Thanks friend. Thanks for looking out for us here in the states.
