Any info on observing in IRAAN?

greybanded Feb 25, 2011 03:59 PM

Will be heading out when the weather is right and mainly want to concentrate on Langtry where I feel I have the best odds of seeing a graybanded in the wild based on past experiences. The only place I haven't looked for them before is Iraan and I know some beautifukl animals have come from there. Does anyone know if this area is fairly productive or is it really, really hard like finding an alterna in the Christmas mountains. Would greatly appreciate any info on observing in Iraan. Easy to hunt? Traffic? etc... Thanks a lot.

There are some places around Iraan I would love to check, but I still haven't found my first alterna ANYWHERE and think I should devote my efforts (and limited time) to the "usual" spots before I get all crazy.

Iraan has good alterna habitat . Found this female there. Found a DOR male the following night. Haven't seen an alterna there since. I hate Iraan. It is a long drive from everywhere and stinks like oil fields.

looks like there are alterna there in that habitat.....

Is it easy to hunt the cuts there like in Langtry and Sanderson? Or is it more road hunting like Juno? Are there lots of cuts or not as many?

There are some easily accessbile cuts to observe west of Iraan. The road is reasonably quiet and you probably won't get bothered much.

Even though most of the roads to the oil fields are not gated, you need to stay off these private roads. There is plenty of hunting area on the public roads.

Thanks. That's the best info so far. Anyone else have any good info on observing in Iraan? Basically trying to decide if it's worth spending a little time there or just in Langtry. Thanks.

Iraan
Very small oil town.
LE is going to be in your presence a lot of the night. I notice they have the usual ticket trap scheme going on so don't even do 1 mph over the speed limit. Obey all traffic rules.

Last but not least, don't announce exactly where your gonna be. Just go out and have fun.

I recently sold some land approx 8 miles from Iraan. Hunting alterna there to me; is almost pointless, unless you live nearby. I live in Austin tx, and have made several weekend trips hunting alterna and have collected at least one ALMOST every trip in langtry/comstock area. If your driving, this by far is the most productive area.
