A silly question about the termites....I feel embarrassed to ask

shopaholic Sep 28, 2003 02:03 AM

I see you folks talking alot about termites and how our darts love them. This may sound like a foolish question, but aren't you afraid of escapes and then endangering your home with loose termites? Or is there something I still don't know about the termites you guys are feeding the darts? Thanks!

I feed mine in a deli cup lid they cant climb the sides, i also heard that termites dry out very quickly and dont have enough time to setup a colony before dying. I feed some to my green and bronze pair and they laid there eggs 4 days earlier than normal, and all were good. All my frogs love them.

You can't set up a colony without the queen... New colonies are set up when an already existing termite mound produces extra queens. These queens leave the original colony. Then some fertile male termites (the ones with wings, that fly) will pair up with the new queen and mate with her and establish a new colony.

if you just have a few workers you have nothing to worry about.
