Has anyone tried......

BryanR. Sep 28, 2003 02:12 AM

Has anyone tried mixing like, green tree frogs, or whites with FBT's? I know its highly un recomended to mix any species, but, has anyone tried it? There use to be this petstore down the street, they mixed species alot, and very succesfuly. They had this 100 gallon tank set up, with FBT's fish, salamanders, and White tree frogs, I have no idea how they all lived, I thought it was a little obsurd, but it worked. See, I have 4 FBT's in a 29 gallon tank, Technically , I could have about 4 more easily. Well do you think the toxins are powerful enough to harm a Green Tree Frog or Whites with about 4 gallons of water in there?

PS: Please dont yell at me about not mixing, i understand, I dont plan on it, its just a question.

Heres a picture of the tank (the server may be temporarily down if you see a X:

oh your set up is 29 gal. thats fine the tree frogs wont be spending much time in the water. like i said make sure there is land available with shagnum moss or wood chips. I have a fire belly toad with a newt, fish, leopard frogs, and a bull frog tadpole and they have been living peacably for 4-5 months. As long as there is activated carbon it should be fine.

Just because they are alive doesn’t mean that they are happy.

Then again, would anyone be too happy in a glass tank?

in a 100 gallon set up id imagin it be fine. I have a green tree frog in with my firebelly toad in a vivarium. Make sure there is land available so the tree frogs can come down and eat up crickets. make sure you accomodate the tree frogs needs. Make sure to mist the plants and sides of the glass the frog hangs around so he can have a drink.

Well, all I can tell you is that if you read through the forums, you'll see how many people came in to say that there is something wrong with their frogs (kept with FBTs, of course), that their frogs died, and then never come back.

Why, if an animal is toxic, would anyone mix it with other species that are known to be harmed by the toxins? And, if they live under completely different habitats, why would they ever be mixed, anyway? Four gallons isn't that much water, and a 100-gallon tank isn't so big, either. I'm sure that if you find fish or animals from the same habitats as FBTs, you'd find some resistant animals, but why are GTFs introduced into this? I'm not trying to come down on you, because I understand all you did was ask a question, but I just read some of the replies, and UGHH!
