Does anyone use Carefresh as a substrate? Do you like it? Not like it? Any pluses or minuses? Just curious as it is actually easier to get and more economical than aspen for me. Thanks for any feedback you have.

I've heard snakes like to burrow in it.
How is it more economical (just curious).
Aspen is like half the cost of Carefresh at my local Petco.

The aspen at my Petco is shaved as opposed to shredded and I really don't like the texture or quality. They do sell the shredded stuff marketed as Snake Aspen but they mark it way up. It is roughly the same price as the Carefresh but you get much less. So I was just looking for alternatives. Thanks.

Shaved aspen sucks! It does'nt "clump" which defeats the purpose! I'm trying to use up some bags right now! Never again! Gotta make sure it's shredded!
first......don't buy anything at pet shops....
find a dealer near you...someone has connections.....local shows even would be better....make deals...buy more than one bag....go in with other people and get a bunch of bags....
shaved-- shredded...aspen is cool....we all like different stuff.....most of us hate the dust....my one friend goes ballistic over dusty bags....
paper....free and easy....
....I use aspen for balls mostly...paper for the really messy ones during their weird times of the year they wil not stop swimming.....

Have you tried feed stores or hardware stores?
They may have shredded aspen for cheaper.
I use the shaved stuff and it works just fine.

I've used carefresh as a bedding for display at shows and found that as the burrow the fibers get stuck in their mouths on their teeth. After having to pick some of those out of a few baby boa mouths I stopped using it. It also molds fast if it gets wet.

....I appreciate all the replies. I will check out a feed store. I used to get my aspen at shows but am currently working weekends and getting days off for shows can be difficult. May have to get my wife to go to the show to pick some up for me. Thanks again.
