Home Depot is fine! Just make sure there's no little white styro balls in it!

When I was using vermic...I was able to find it at local floral shops and greenhouses that are open to the public...price is usually fair. But like I said that was when I use to use it to hatch snakes.

Take a look at the Vermiculite at uline.com
They sell 4 grades, or grain size. I use the med or coarse. It is $23 per bag, minimum 2, for a 4 cu foot bag. Even with shipping, this price is hard to beat. I have used it for years. Good luck! Tom

Make sure that it's not the kind that has clumps of soil or peat moss mixed in (it will look like brown dirt clods). It causes the eggs to rot.

Yes, very important point. I made the mistake of using miracle grow brand perlite a few years back. I figured they just put their name on it, didn't realize that it had fertilizer in it. Caused a bunch of eggs to rot and mold!
Just make sure it's plain old vermiculite or perlite.

Or just use Hatch-rite and you dont have to worry about vermic and fertilizer and mixing water...too much or not enough
