6qts is actually the smallest recommanded tub size. In my oppionion 6qt is already rather small. I prefer the largest tubs I can afford to use. I'm using 15qts as my standed size tubs and will utilize 12qt tubs for small clutches (3-4 eggs) if I'm tight for space. A smaller tub leaves you with a smaller window of tolerance if there is any issues. For example if you have humidity loss you won't be able have much media in a 6qt thus you will not have much room for humity loss before the tub might be too dry.

I use Hovabators , with vermic right in the bottom....the bottom has been replaced with a lerger , taller shipping box (styrofoam)....I use 2 to 3 inches of vermic....and each HovaBoator will hold from 4 to 6 clutches of eggs....I wish for 4 per incubator...it means more eggs and larger eggs....less duds also...(*I run 4 'bators at a time....as one is emptied it is refilled usually with new clutches...it beats all the eggs in one basket...and yes...I have killed a whole 'bator full once...)...

.....go to a store and walk around...you'll find something in every size....be prepared....

....good luck....

What's a lerger? What size tubs do you use for your
Eggs? Pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your
Reply!

a lerger is a larger with a southern drawl to it?

typo..larger...taller...bigger box

...no pics...just a Hovabator with vermic in it and eggs on that half buried....

...I don't use boxes....

Is it left right or top bottom that's the issue? I have been using the big deli style containers that everone uses at the shows to keep the snakes in. I think were using the 10" X 5" tall tubs.. there already vented but don't drop below 80% humidity even here in Arizona. Hatch rate is at 100% since switching from the 12 and 15 qt tubs that I simply HATE now that I've used these!

Left to right is the problem! I was thinking the deli
Style containers round ones just have to find them!
But are those good enough for a 6 egg clutch?

chongorojo Mar 03, 2011 06:11 PM

The 5 inch will do 8 eggs if you can seperate 2 of them but a clutch of 6 eggs is usally easy, I did a 4 and 5 egg clutch in em but the eggs were small. LLL has em or try a local reptile shop.. if ya can't find em send me shipping money and ill send ya a few lol

The 5" deli cups hold 4-5 eggs? LLL has them?
Can you tell me the exact size? Thanks for your help!

chongorojo Mar 03, 2011 07:01 PM

No. The tubs I use are 9.75" wide by 5" tall aka 10"x5". LLL and I belive reptile basics both have them under shipping supplies..

I'm looking at the LLL website now. Is it the 190 oz or 128 oz?

chongorojo Mar 03, 2011 07:07 PM

Thomas, use the 128s for up to 6/7 eggs. The 190s work for bigger clutches like 10/14 eggs.. but you always could use just the 190s. With more space in the bator like I have that's what I would reccomend! and do! Lol

I use the same tub, I get them from superiorshippingsupplies.com
I can get an 8 egg "unmounded" clutch in the 128oz, and use the 190 for larger/mounded clutches. I tape all but 2 holes shut and get great humidity using Hatchrite type material. If I get too much condensation, I will untape a hole.
100% hatch of fertile eggs!
