Some of you may recall my posts from a few months ago regarding the apparent disappearance of two formerly-abundant Nerodia species from a local urban wilderness area in central OK. I hadn't seen a single specimen of Nerodia since 2001.
I'm now happy to report that both species (N. rhombifer and N. erythrogaster transversa) have made appearances within the last week. I've confirmed two of each. They're not even close to being as plentiful as they once were, but they're still here.
Not only that, but I'm confident that one of the transversas (Blotched Watersnake) was close to five feet long! Unfortunately, I couldn't bag him to get an objective measurement (see my posts on the Field Observations forum). But the search continues - he still should be around somewhere!
