I am working on something that many will like, but I need some information from all of you......some of you all know all about it but most of you all do not. I will share soon enough......But in the mean time:

What size, brand and model of tub do you use for your kingsnakes?
Hatchling -
Sub Adult -
Adult -

For Example:
I mainly use the 28qt Sterilite #1856.

Hatchling - sterlite 6qt
Sub Adult - iris 12qt
Adult - iris 28qt/sterlite 32qt

>>Hatchling - sterlite 6qt
>>Sub Adult - iris 12qt
>>Adult - iris 28qt/sterlite 32qt

Model numbers would be beneficial since each manufacturer changes their design ever so often......
But I do thank you Brian.

CB 70s for adults (Iris I think?)

Sterilite for the juvies, either the 14 or 28 quart boxes depending on size.

frankly I'm looking at getting away from tubs for adults though; I just like cages more for kings. I'm keeping them for my balls though, who seem to do really well in them.

What model numbers on the 14qt and 28qt?

I actually hated building a rack again after keeping 20 of my adults in Applegate Enclosures, but I have a way to provide everything an Applegate Enclosure does within a tub........

Racks are essential for the folks that have large numbers of snakes/reptiles....you know....us hoarders.....LOL

..is that they don't harbor anything. They don't have nooks and crannies where germs can set in them. Take them outside hose them down or spray with disinfectant and good as new.

I am not looking for what you think "works best".......
The ones with latches are useless in a lidless rack system like many/most folks use........

These will work fine in a pullout sytem without the tops John. You can even remove the latches quite easily!

I agree I have several Jason's Jungle racks that use the new and old Sterilities and they work fine for my juvies and adults. I am not sure I would trust hatchlings to the 6qt versions but my room is based on three tubs

Sterilitie 32qt 1755 or 1756 (they are interchangeable)
Sterilitie 15qt 1753 or 1754
Iris 6qt 50522

these can be used in a pull out system with or without the tops too. The top surface is fairly flat even when it's latched. I've been grabbing all the ones I see. I can only find them at one particukar WalMart. Then they only put out about 6 or so at a time.

Hi John,

For adults, I use CB70s (not sure of the make), they are for the Freedom Breeder ball python rack. Measurements are aprox 32"l x 22"w x 6"d (I think). For youngins, I use a Sterilite box (not sure of volume) that is about 13"l x 10"w x 6"W. For babies, I use a Sterilite that is about 12"l x 6"w x 4"h. These are all approximate because I am away from the snake house right now. They are all so old, the labels revealing the volume have worn off years ago. What are you up to John? Are you gonna design a line of kingsnake racks?? Thanks.

Thanks Will, but the best info I can get is model numbers. If these models are out of production the worst case scenario is to get one sent to me, but I will share all the details later this year. Especially by the Daytona show.

This is what I use.I prefer these beacause they are a little heavier built than some of the others. Also, hardware cloth is used for the centers(of the lid)held with nylon zip ties.Four paws brand clips are used to secure the slack area on each side.I have a small collection compared to most of you guys however. These can be used topless of course if you have a rack system. I used these little Sterilite tubs with baby pyros, but found I had to bungee them as one of the babies managed to escape! She was found right away, whew! 12.7 quart latch tub. Attach a 4 watt UTH and it works fine for snakes.

What the 105 Sterilite tubs look like; lids on. In the summer I can put the tubs out in dappled sunlight. This works good with my fence lizards, who do need natural sunlight to be healthy. Also works fine for toads. The snakes just seem to enjoy having the sun on their backs in the morning. I have cut out the center of the lid with a jigsaw and installed 1/8 inch hardware cloth (with nuts and bolts-hot glue does not work!)and have run a line of window insulation around the edge so the animals can't come in contact with the folded under hardware cloth edge.

105 quart tubs in place. The little tubs on top are also used as cricket grow tubs. I like the 105 tubs as I can add lots of aspen and give the snakes more vertical space with thermal gradients than if I used a less tall tub. The two bottom tubs are maternity tubs for my female pyros that are mating now; once they are obviously gravid they will go back into these tubs on the bottom shelf. Also bungeed. The two big tubs on the next shelf are currently empty. The big tubs can be connected by RV sewer hose for more space, or closed off, as needed. (currently closed off with peanut butter jar caps which fit perfectly over sewer connectors! LOL!)Also have 4 watt UTH's attached (regulated by thermostat), which give the snake a nice hot spot without the potential to burn the plastic tub.

All this is designed to not need a rack system. I am not sure at this point where to build my rack, as I don't have a lot of room and have to do some major rearranging of furniture in my cabin. None of this is very professional but it works pretty well. When I do build the rack I will design it to accommodate these sizes of tubs.

105's work great as mouse tubs, too. Lots of room for growing out the weanlings or keeping several females with a male in a large colony. With the screen top the mice have lots of ventilation. I like having a lot of versatility with all the tubs I have. I also use 58 quart Sterilite tubs for most of my mice, same screened lid design).

Mice in summer screen tent in their assorted 105 and 58 quart Sterilite tubs.

John,

Love the cryptic opening to your post. If whatever "it" is decreases the number of tubs in my garage and snake room I am all for it.

Since I have AP racks I mostly use sterilite 32 and 15Q. I've got some older melamine racks that use an older model of sterilite that you can no longer find.

Good luck with your project.
