Snakes you DON'T want in your collection

kingofspades Mar 04, 2011 02:08 AM

We all talk about snakes we DO want, how about snakes you don't want?

Personally...I'm not a big fan of Albinos, pinstripes or champagnes.

Careful. This thread might get deleted...But since you are asking I would say Champagne (morph destroyer), caramel (kinks), spider (wobble/poor motor skills), axanthic (browning out), and sable (mudball). Sorry if I have offended anyone.

zippy00_99 Mar 04, 2011 01:16 PM

Have you seen the Albino Champagne? I agree with the sable, but only because it fails when mixed with some morphs, but the sable, pastel, spider is really cool. I don't see how ANYONE can not like the spider. Not trying to start a fight, just disagreeing.

ohernz Mar 04, 2011 05:05 AM

hmmm any Albinos (high contrast) or pinstripes you don't want, send them my way!..

this is an interesting thread. There are several morphs that I'm not interested in breeding but to say that I DON'T WANT is kinda hard but I'll try.

sable/chocolate
banana/coral glow (adults are ugly to me but babies rock. make
them stay purple and my opinion will change)
caramels (there are better options to get that color ie. crider
and ultramels without kinking)
lavender albino (really don't want to spend that kind of money
on a slight upgrade from high contrast albino
but if the lav albino black ball is purple then
my opinion changes, lol)

tevie84 Mar 04, 2011 07:39 AM

IDK if I agree with on the banana/coral glow. Check out some of those NERD videos or Brock Wagners collection, quite nice. But I have seen photos of some that look fleshy or something.

zippy00_99 Mar 04, 2011 01:17 PM

Have you seen the Lavender Snow...OMG!!! I love it!

joshhutto Mar 05, 2011 05:12 PM

yes I've seen that and that is a great looking snake. I gave my opinion on what I don't want in my collection just like everyone else did. Is there a reason you have to disagree with everyone's PERSONAL OPINION? The great thing about ball pythons is that there are enough different looking morphs out there to satisfy everyone's PERSONAL tastes.

pictured is one of my favorite combos of all time at this point.

Sorry, Josh. It was not my intention to hurt anyone. I just love ALL of the morphs. Including normals. I would even not mind having a super (hidden gene) woma as long as it ate, shed, and shi.....you get the idea. I understand that it is all personal opinion, I am just trying to shed light on some things that you guys MIGHT not have seen.

jason Mar 04, 2011 07:13 AM

Axanthics (they brown out too quick)
womas (though some woma combos are awesome)
Yellowbellies (I'd rather just get a pair of ivories)

I like champagnes, but so far I only like them as a base morph or as a mimosa-I've yet to see any other combo I like

zippy00_99 Mar 04, 2011 01:18 PM

Axanthics make great combos though. Bumble Bee axanthic is soooo cool.

BuzzardBall Mar 04, 2011 09:12 AM

Alright! It's your guys lucky day! Today and today only, I'm accepted any and all unwanted morphs! I don't want any of my fellow posters to be stressed and depressed!
Seriously though, I'm not a big fan of the dark subtle or muddy morphs ie: Sable, Camo, etc. That being said, if I picked some up in a trade or a collection buy-out, I might dable w/em'

Paige69 Mar 04, 2011 02:15 PM

Axanthic don't do anything for me.

Also the enchi is only nice if it is a distinctive one. I saw a really nice male at the Sacto show in May and I didn't buy it, don't I feel like a dumb@ss!! (it was PRETYY and a perfect ex)

Dark Pinstripes are ugly too but man you make a Kingpin and it rocks!!

Most snakes have a non attractive form (except Pastels!! )
IMHO.

It is fun having these kind of discussions!! I hope I didn't offend anyone cause that is not my intention at all.

I'm not a fan of Spiders. I don't mind the wobble, the pattern just doesn't grab me. Even when made into a combo. The only one I really like is the Spinner, but just a plain one. Spinner blast seems to wash things out too much.

My husband is not a fan of any of the white snakes. He thinks they are boring. But of course, I am in love with them.

Any of the morphs that are stunning as babies and meh as adults. Even normals can be beautiful as hatchlings. I want a 5000 gram adult female that has colors and patterns that will blow you socks off. I use my snakes for teaching, and people are more willing to step out of their usual boundaries to touch or hold a beautiful snake.

Spiders are one of the most beautiful pattern morphs out there. Just sayin' I know this is all opinion based, but you mean to tell me that you don't like Bumble Bees? Ahhh man.

Bolitochrome Mar 04, 2011 01:52 PM

It isn't that I think Spiders are ugly, per se. They just don't interest me. And so many people have them.

Bumblebees were one of the first morphs that got me interested in BPs. But ultimately I like morphs that really clean up nice and are higher contrast, such as Deserts, quality Mojaves, Lemon Pastels, Genetic stripes, etc.

Like you said, it is all opinions. I would never try to talk someone out of a Spider if that is what they wanted for their collection. It just probably won't be a flavor of mine.

I hate those things with a passion and will NEVER understand the appeal. Clorox Balls are the ugliest snakes on the planet. Not to mention their combos suck. Ooooooh, a completely white snake with a spot on it's head! Woo hoo!

BuzzardBall Mar 04, 2011 11:58 AM

Your definitely in the minority!

RyanT Mar 04, 2011 01:50 PM

Oh, I know. That's OK, I don't mind at all.

zippy00_99 Mar 04, 2011 01:22 PM

With all due respect.....your smoking crack..lol. Have you seen the enchi pied?

RyanT Mar 04, 2011 01:52 PM

Yeah, I have. Enchis = Awesome. Throw Clorox on Enchi, throw it in the freezer, cause then it's ruined.

zippy00_99 Mar 05, 2011 09:09 AM

lol..

kingofspades Mar 04, 2011 04:25 PM

I like some pied combos, but I agree with the pied spiders or the pied lessers.
A white snake with some pattern on it's head...just looks like someone started it and didn't finish.

I used to "not like pieds" when I started getting involved with ball pythons...Now I can't wait to produce pieds of my own (have two possible het pied couples breeding this season), but I don't like ALL pied combinations...Pied Lesser and Pied Spiders do nothing for me (for now)

I almost dont even believe this post, I agree with you on some of the combos but the pied itself attracts more people to this hobby then any other morph IMO. I know a lot of people that do not like snakes and when they see pieds they are impressed. But if thats how you truly feel your definitely entitled to your opinion.

RyanT Mar 07, 2011 09:51 AM

I know. That's what really baffles me. Whenever I have the unpleasant experience of looking at a Pied, it just makes me wonder WHY so many people appreciate them. To me, they're hideous. And I know exactly what you mean. People that know NOTHING about snakes, when you bring them up, will say "I've seen those ball pythons with the white all over them. Those are so cool!" I just roll my eyes and say "Yeah, I've heard." Haha.

So would I... in looking at morphs I'm not too fond of... I couldn't find a combo that I didn't like for that morph. I'm not a huge fan of pinstripes but I LOVE spinners and kingpins.... I'm not a huge fan of axanthics, but an axanthic killer bee I'm pretty sure I'd give my first born child for... (kidding).

calling the champagne a morph killer is deserving of more than just a poke in the eye- i saw the champagne pastel calico in person a couple weeks ago- the most amazing ball python i've ever seen.

To complain about a Spider wobble when I know 100% for a fact that female Deserts do not breed or grow. Every BIG breeder with them in numbers knows this.

You're a good guy Robin, but you need to come clean on this.

NORMALS.....I don't want ANY NORMALS.....j/k. I want every morph known to man and Kevin from NERD too, but I'd have to go with the sable, axanthic, and albino (I still want them, but they're waaaay down the list). I know a lot of people are saying spider on here, but I love them and EVERY cross with them. I think the wobble gives them personality. Chris Hall

I really don't want any Spider in my collection or any combos with it.
They are just sick animals IMO, they are not worth breeding and should never have been in the beginning. Hate the wooble.

I also don't like axanthic, their don't appeal to me enough cause they don't look good as they age.

I also don't like plain Pastel, I would prefer a normal instead.
I have pastel combos but not simple pastels, even if I know their history and what they can do.

There are a lot of others that I wouldn't mind to have, but I don't since they are too expensive or just don't make the combos I would like to. If I had all the place, money and mostly time to take of them, I wouldn't mind to have some pieds combos, axanthics, spot nose and sable but I prefer to invest my money and time in other projects.

I think champagnes are the ugliest morph and they ruin anything they are combined with. I cannot understand why anyone would pay good money for them!?!
