2011 Jungle Sunglow Litter

boafusion Mar 05, 2011 02:01 PM

The Mother is an 07 Hypo Jungle Het Albino from Jeremy Stone and the Father an 08 Sunglow. The mother is doing very well, she ate a decent sized meal last night.

All the babies are doing well. 19 in total. 0 Stillborn and 0 slugs. I have not sexed them yet. Not one bite from a baby. Everyone is completely docile and outgoing.

I will upload better pictures after their first shed. These ones were taken quickly with my iphone.

The jungle gene was strong in this litter.

Thanks for looking

congrats on the litter!

I totally agree with keeping babies together till after the first shed. I think that they can thermoregulate better when they are together.. ever notice how they pile up in a corner near the warm side.. they can move towards the inside and bottom of the pile for more heat or away from the pile for less heat.. I also like to put babies on moist aspen. I think having the option of moving through the aspen helps with thermoregulating and with getting the first shed off.

I would be cautious with Aspen while I haven't used it for new born babies I could see the possibility of infection from a piece of wood going into well their open belly button

I considered specifying my statement about using aspen, but I guess I chose to not continuing typing... but yes, I agree with your comment. I use paper towels with babies for the first few days until all the bleeding has stopped.. I like paper towels initially just because it's easy to change and I usually do change it daily till all the blood and baby goo is completely cleaned off.

but i like to get them onto aspen by the end of the first week at least - as the shedding usually starts by day 8 or 9

Great looking litter lots of nice looks in the litter! Cant go wrong there!

I would suggest keeping groups of them together until they shed however. It will make it easier for them to keep moist and shed...with my first litter, I kept them all individual and had issues with them shedding and some even skipped the shed, my other litters they were kept together until they shed and it made the whole process easier. Just some food for thought.
