Pissed off and never hungry

Max0331 Mar 07, 2011 07:10 PM

So I have an 09 black pine that is in excellent health. But.... It will not take prekilled rodents. So I have been trying live. Whenever I offer my snakes live prey I stick around in an un intrusive way to make sure the rat or mouse in this case doesnt hurt my snakes. Anyways I tried multiple times and the first three times the snake did not ever seem interested but did succeed at striking the mice enough to kill them. I figured it would go back and eat the mouse later. No luck. So This time I tried by putting a mouse with the snake and immidietly leaving the room. There is absolutely nothing in the room that would disturb the snake. I went back a few hours later with the same result. A dead mouse and an uninterested snake in its hide. I understand that many snakes will go off feeding randomly or at specific times of the year. But has anyone else dealt with a snake that just kills and does not eat?
Thanks
Max

Yes- sounds like it's stressed out.

Are you handling it? If so, I'd leave it alone for a couple weeks, other than water, cleaning and offering food.

I've got animals that haven't eaten in months (I don't cool them), but I'm not worried- they look great.

I'd probably give the animal a deeper substrate to bury in, and more places to hide...

You might also want to try smaller food items.

My male does it every year for the first few meals but after another week or two the female gets nice and fat the male starts to actially consume.

J/K! She eats.
J/K! She eats and is pretty cool, but was angry last night.

Back to the subject..

Sounds like a male that wants to breed. Seen it many times.

Hiya Bob,
Oh man. And it wouldn't be a neatly-stacked pile. And all my clothes would be under it..
