Frogs and turtles

cyclonegirl Sep 28, 2003 10:57 AM

Can frogs and turtles live together? The turtle I am thinking about is small.
Thanks,

They can reside together only if you have a large enough enclosure I'd say at least 48in. x 36in. so they don't run into each other. Also if one is to much larger then the other then the smaller will become food. For instance sliders will eat or try to rip apart any frog it can catch. Some small map or other "herbivores tendency" turtles will probally work w/ maybe some medium hyla or other tree frog species will usually stay out of reach. Do some research on the species you want first so someone doesn't end up for dinner. Large ranids & leptodactylus species will eat smaller turtles. Also don't get any bufo toad species.

I wouldn't mix even with a larger tank. Any frog will get a chunk taken out of it, pretty much regardless of species of turtle, and any "small" turtle will not stay small for too long. Andy

It's always a bad idea to mix species, and it's an even worse idea to mix a natural predator with it's prey. You can't keep anything other than other turtles with turtles or they will try to eat it.
