IJ retained shed on tail,,recommendations?

JRPHD Sep 28, 2003 11:36 AM

Hello,
I just realized that my '02 IJ has retained shed on his tail. Looks like its about two sheds old. It looks somewhat constricted, but no open wound or anything. Other than soaking, any thoughts and getting the piece off?
Thanks for your time

Soak it so the skin loosens. Then pull the loose dead skin off with tweezers of fingers. Easy to do. If you don't do it, the snake can eventually lose the tip of the tail.

Thank you both for the help, it worked like a charm. He wasn't too happy, but I don't think I caused any damage.
Thanks again

Get a bowl of luke warm water. put his tail in it for a while and let it soak. Now under the water slowely slide your fingers toward the tail and roll the skin off. It's just like your rolling on a condom. Sorry for the lame analogy. You don't ever just want to grab an end and pull it off. if it is not going then soak it for a while longer. Make sure you get it off soon though because there is a chance it could constrict the tail, which could lead to it falling off. Hope this helps
