My First Litter....

LeosAnonymous Sep 28, 2003 11:47 AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm just getting into rodent breeding and I'm still waiting for my first litter from my breeders... I was going through the retired breeder mice I bought for my baby ball pythons and noticed one was pregnant, so I held off feeding her.

Well last night she had twins... =) I can definitely see why she was retired, lol. But anyways, we all have to start somewhere. With a first litter of only two, it all has to get better from here.

Maybe I'll get three next time! lol

I know how that goes for ya. I'm surprised that you noticed two pinks inside of a mouse, haha, good eye, it must be easy when there are 10+ right?

I bought a mouse when I was 12 or 13 as a pet, the next morning, 6 babies, haha. Reared them, good fun, gave them to friends as pets.

I had a bit of a hard time when I started breeding mice. My first pair got out in my garage, the female was captured 5 months later and sentenced to a yellw rat snakes cage where it dissappeared. I bought 1.3 after that, and didn't look back till I didn't need stuff that small anymore, and am just on rats now, running 1.3 (big time, I know). At one point there were 1.5 mice and 1.4 rats, but I was producing 3x what I needed for 6 snakes and sold some to a fellow herper.

Good luck,

Jon
