I also had this experience the other day. I had the ultrasound out and was checking follicles as well as trying to feel what they felt like at different sizes and development. Seemed as if once they ovulated that they still stayed kind of smashed together, but after a few days once they start taking on individual proportions is when you will start feeling them again. This is also why once you see ovulation the female tends to look normal again. Once she gets closer to laying you will start seeing/feeling each individual egg in the female.

Hope this helps,
Scott

This is just the way I do things. After I see an ovulation there is no reason to palpate, just wait for the pre-egg shed and then eggs.

LOL..funny...I been doing this 20 years and I don't palpate....
I actually felt one girl up yesterday, which I never do...I felt 3 ping pong balls as mentioned....which just makes me sad...I want 7 ping pong balls in her.....at least.....I figure maybe I felt one ovaries supply of ovum and not the second...and that maybe the second was smaller? and not as developed?...that makes the question? are both ovaries making ovum the same rate and the same size at the same time???.....
*(ever open a chicken or turtle...there are (hundreds)ovum in there of all sizes....from pin head to almost layed)

anyways......I just go by look and if they eat they eat, they ay they lay.....all we can do is throw them together till they do or don't...

......to actually answer the first OP question....as mentioned...they are all smooshed together...they are big enough that they cannot be felt anymore......once they get shelled it will help you feel them more....
