Sick female leopard gecko

hopwood May 26, 2003 04:43 PM

My female gecko seems to be sick and is "crawling" around the terrarium. I haven't seen her eat anything in 2 days but I have force fed her 3 meal worms but I want to make sure that she doesn't spread anything to my 3 others.
Some people were talking about a calcium dish butI need more info on that as I am new to the whole gecko thing.

Thanks for any help you can offer

You can put a small amount of calcium in like a milk carton top. This is so they can get calcium whenever they feel they need it.

Actually after only two days of not eating force feeding is not the thing to do. You need to look closely at your husbandry techniques and see if you can pinpoint a problem. Force feeding a animal after only two days of not eating will only most likely compound your problem and stress out the leopard further! Try doing just the opposite and don't handle her and keep things quiet for a day or so and then see if things change.

You need to get some phosphorus-free reptile calcium (find at petstore or online) and put in it a jar lid and have in the enclosure at all times. Why didn't you do the research on how to care for the animal BEFORE you got it? You may have given your poor leo MBD by not taking a few minutes to research how to care for it properly. MBD can be arrested and with immediate treatment your gecko can be improved, but is not fully reversable. It is also not contagious. You need to take your leo to a vet, if she has MBD she will need calcium injections to give her the best chance at being okay, and he can do a fecal on her to check for contagious parasites as well.
