What would be a good mate for this guy?

SPJ01 Mar 14, 2011 09:53 PM

albino motley or super hypo?

This guy is an awesome colored Colombian and I want to try increase the color on any offspring. Do you think he would make colorful motleys, albinos, hypos......?

Even has a nice tail...LOL

Anything you add him to should benefit with more color and in the case of connected pattern Morphs i.e. Arab, Aztec, KWB, Motley etc . . .
His connected pattern will most likely have a positive influence as well !

...as yours is really VERY nice!!!...don't have to morph it to another morph for your own personal rewards...does not always have to be about money, if that makes sense!?-Charlie

I would breed it to an Aztec. Your boa appears to have a fairly strong pattern which would help maintain the Aztecs pattern. My Aztec has square side medallions. In my opinion, the heave medallions your boa has would look pretty cool squared off.

Could always try a really nice Jungle. Also can never go wrong with the Motley.

No history except that it is a male Colombiam.
It came to me from someone who had to sell their collection.

Here is more of a body shot. He likes to explore so keeping an eye on him and taking a photo is a bit difficult. He is a very strong animal for only being 5 feet long. LOL

This picture:

Makes me think of animals like this:

Photo property of Brad Travers

Photo property of Orlando Diaz

Photo property of Marc Duhon

Photo property of Joel Thomas

Besides just the intersaddle dashes and intense color, that boa seems to have a lot in common, visually, with all of these boas.

Just my thoughts

Obviously I could be wrong (and probably am) and the ultimate authority on the animal and it's history should be it's owner, you.

He does!
That kinda throws out the whole Colombian thing.
Looks a LOT like those others.
What are the other ones? Some type of BCC?

Jonathan_Brady Mar 15, 2011 08:28 PM

I'm not saying he isn't a Colombian, just that the similarities to those Surinamese BCC casts a shadow of doubt that you may benefit from clearing up.

It may just be a suri.
The person I got it from bought it as a colombian. I jumped on the chance to get it because the color was incredible and the price was right.
Since the there really is no history on this animal, it may very well be a BCC and not a BCI.
I'm no good at scale counts or saddle counts (more of a python keeper) so I just took it at face value as a good example of a BCI.
Now the question is do I look for a female suri or try with a BCI as planned? I would really hate to make a cross if this is in fact a BCC. Decisions....decisions.....LOL

Jonathan_Brady Mar 15, 2011 09:59 PM

scale counts are easy Get a shed skin, cut it down the middle of the ventral (belly) scales, and follow this:
http://www.seanthomas.net/oldsite/scount.html

In boas, you're looking for midbody scale counts so on the shed skin that's cut as described above, you'd go from left to right, not including the ventral scales.

I had been waiting for someone else to say something...my thoughts are it's Central American to Bcc; perhaps from a early version "salmon" crossed to Bcc with a fair amount of Honduran in it(obviously not hypo').
