Hypo Brooksi Progression

slitheringdead Mar 15, 2011 01:18 PM

I just wanted to share the change in color and size that occurred within 3 months. It's kind of hard to see in the pictures, but he has gotten a lot bigger, especially his head size.

December 2010 (60g)

March 2011 (137g)

my florida kings have been the fastest growing (proportionately anyhow) snakes I've kept. There's weeks during thier first year I'd swore they grew visibly from Monday through Friday.

Yeah, they are fast growing snakes indeed.

As a comparison, I got my Okeetee at the same time as my Brooksi. The Okeetee started at 15g and now weighs 67g. The Brooksi started at 23g and now weighs 137g.

Woah! That's insane...

Nice snake! They do grow fast huh? My speckled kings don't grow as fast as the floridana either.

I was wondering if that was just me. I've seen some pics of large field collected speckleds (like 4 feet) so I know they can get good sized but mine are *maybe* 2' long and still fairly thin. Pretty though and FINALLY calming down which is a plus.

Yeah they can definately get large. My very first snake ever, well my first long term captive, the first one escaped after a short time, but that second one was a very large male WC, which I named Goliath. Here's an old pic of him.

Cool, old picture Jorge.....I really enjoy a nice big holbrooki......
When you were in Louisiana did you all call them Salt and Peppa Kings?

I've seen some there that WERE black and white but lots of them were bright yellow, especially in SW Louisiana......The locals told me the were green cause they looked green while they were moving......

Poor planning and procrastination on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part...

YEP! Salt & Pepper Kings, lol. I used to find them everywhere. I found one while working at ACE hardware. I was taking out some trash and there was a large one crawling under the dumpster. I grabbed it's tail and he put up a good fight. The only thing I had to put him in was a cardboard box with air holes punch in and sealed with tape. Of course he found his way out and I never saw him again, ha ha.

I got him from Ben Siegel, so unfortunately i don't know who the actual breeder was. I also got my Okeetee from him:

Well that hypo is very nice. You can tell the ones that retain the red more as adults by how red the head is. Red hypos with yellow heads turn yellow real fast. The redheads dont.

Anyway, yours is exceptional.
