Gopher snake ID

gizzy20001 Mar 15, 2011 08:55 PM

I have 3 gopher snakes, An I was wondering if there was a way to tell what sub-sp and or morph they are. I was told when I got them, they were Albino sonoran, regular sonoran, and albino San Diego.

these are of the albino sonoran

normal sonoran?

albino san diego?

now here is where it confuses me, the albino san diego has very similar markings to the regular sonoran, only with the black replaced by white, the albino san diego is more yellow/white markings with the eyes being the only red. and the albino sonoran had lighter pink eyes and alot of red markings on a yellow and white background.

I saw in another posting that the sonoran has a triangle scale on the nose, (but i think that was to differentiate from a bull snake) all three of these have the same scales on their noses. I'm still kinda new to snakes. though the hobby grew to an obsession quick in the last year I went from one ball python to 14 snakes and I got some corn snake eggs incubating.

From the pics It looks like you have what you said. Id like to see the Albino annectans again. But to me thats what I see.

notice how much different she looks from the other albino behind her. she is almost an orange-yellow in comparison and all the markings are white (almost lavender)

Yes they look wildly different. If I were to say Id say the one in the front is a San Diego and the one behind it is a Sonoran. Im actually in the Sonoran Desert right now and have seen some nice wild Sonoran gopher snakes this past week.
Whatever they are. Youve got some nice looking snakes there.
