What do you guys think.

passionreptiles Mar 16, 2011 01:23 PM

I bred a fire to a really nice pastel. She may have somthing else going on and I never thought about it tell I hatched out a diffrent looking normal. I held back the Normal to dinker around with but want your thoughts. First picture is the Mother, second is the hatchling in question. The hatchling is 200 grams in this picture and actually apears more orange in person. What you guys think?

She laid 3 good eggs and 2 slugs one egg went bad. The other that hatched was a firefly here is her picture.

I don't know about the baby but the mother is one of the nicest adult pastels I've ever seen. Awesome colors!

Thanks man. Picture dont do her justice either. After hatching the really orange hatchling is when I decided to question if there is somthing else going on with mom. She is 1900 grams in that pic by the way so I think if she would have lost color she would have lost it by now.

Just a guess but could that be some Enchi in the mix?

It could be. I am just trying to see what others think. The Pastel female mother was sold to me just as a Pastel But I think there is somthing else going on with her. I own zero enchi's right now and the only male that was with her was a fire.

Could the mother be a pastel enchi?

She could be I dont know as of right now. She was sold to me as just a Pastel but she is a very nice pastel if thats all thats going on.

wohlerswi Mar 17, 2011 11:10 AM

That is definitely 100% for sure not a pastel enchi. The snake in question is a nice regular pastel, but I would even hesitate to call her a smoker. She is far from a pastel enchi, and that baby is just a nice reduced pattern normal. You get nicer normals hatching alongside codoms all the time. Both are nice snakes but you simply have a female pastel and a normal hatchling.

Thanks for your input. I however will disagree with you that she is not even a smoker. I have seen many of nice collections and have yet to see a Pastel that looks anything near as good as she looks. Now maybe the picture dont do her justice but she is defintly a hot one. I also understand that normals can look nice and have a diffrent look to them when comeing from co dom parents but this one is the exception to the rule. Yes there could be nothing going on I agree but I think there is a high chance that something is going on. Just for the fact that I excpected somthing was up with my pastel girl before she ever bred and after producing this gem makes me suspect it even more. Thanks for your input and I will keep everyone updated.

Wow Will you speak so matter of fact. If you know anything about ball pythons than you would understand making such comments are absurd and could very well prove otherwise in the future. You may of had your little dinker projects not prove out, but before making such statements realize this could very well be different. While the pastel that produced the hatchling might not be a Enchi pastel, the sire could easily have the genetics. Also Enchi pastels are very variable looking, some to the extent that you couldn't tell. Will, please tell us your track record and experience breeding ball pythons, because you must have wrote the book.

As for the hatchling, I can't show you one normal that looks like that so I guess I'm crazy to think it's not. Good luck proving this out. I know I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

Thanks for the kind words Brant and I will for sure keep you updated on how it turns out in the future.

I think that pastel is a screamer. I have seen enchi pastels that look like her. I have a similar project going on I hope yours works out as well as mine.
