Waterbed heat mat ?s

WildBill Sep 28, 2003 01:27 PM

A friend threw away his old water bed recently and gave me the heat pad from it. I was thinking about using it in my large burm cage I'm building. The pad is about 3 ft by 13" and has the control and heat sensor still attached. If I attach it to a thermostat, do y'all think it will be safe enough to use as an uth? Haven't decided if I'll try it or not, just wanting some input. Thanks.

I use a waterbed and love it! Did your friends waterbed pop? I think my cat is working on mine.

Anyhow the heater for waterbeds are usually the same as those body heat mats they sell at drug stores. I think it would be fine. Although there is a thermostat on the heater, I'm not sure it would be accurate enough. Once your cage is built/ready try it, and keep a close eye on temps and see how it goes. It might be ok, if not buy a thermostat and it should be fine.

mine accidentally fried b/c I didn't allow enough air space - almost had a fire. Just thought I would chime in with my experience.
