So far, only a little BRB action... pics

rainbowsrus Mar 17, 2011 04:29 PM

So far it's a typical BRB season, the BRB's are just getting started breeding. Every year it's the same thing, I put them together and want to see lots of action but only see a little until April-ish.... Also normal is for one or more to get started early. Last year it was Tawny and Popeye. They ended up producing the first litter of 2010 on 08/02.

This year I have two early starters.....

Ginger being bred by Wacko:
02/10

02/11

02/16

And Aubergine being bred by Biwa:
02/13

02/21

this is early? I would have thought that they would have been paired up already? I had mine pair and done now, I am not really sure what time of the year someone is supposed to pair up BRB. Maybe I should try again with the animals that didn't take...

Is this the time of the year that you always begin breeding (mid April)?

For me in CA this timing works best. You have to work with your local climate. I typically put them together in January and do not see a whole lot of activity until April. My litters have ranged from 07/23 - 11/04 with a very flat bell curve between 08/15 and 10/15.

Working backwards from that, typical POS's start from Early April and range all the way up to mid July with the early April POS's resulting in early August litters.

Average number of days between last recorded activity and POS is 31 days.

For the most part I do not see the ovulation but when I do, 15 or 16 days later is the POS. (based on only a few recorded ovulation dates)
