Whats the rest of the litter look like? wondering if now the eclipse marking would be recessive like the bull's eye markings? Last i checked it was un proven.Nice looking although its missing some complete solid eclipses, unlike your one female.

Thanks for the reply post. I believe that the eclipse phase is a polygenic or line breed trait. I had 16 in that litter and they babies ranged from completely normal looking to looking like Edward. Unfortunately, none of the off spring where completely eclipsed looking like the original female, Twilight.

This is the second time I have been able to breed her. The first time was two seasons ago and she dropped 10 slugs and 1 live male that looked totally normal. I first thought that this could be a recessive trait. However, last years pairing was with an unrelated male leading to some looking normal, some looking “mostly” eclipsed, and everything in between. This leads me to suspect if anything, it is likely a polygenic trait.

I am hoping that the coloring on Edward that is out lining the black will fade over time and may lead to a more “eclipsed” looking animal.

I held back 2 males to put back to Twilight in order to see if there is a high ratio or better looking (fully eclipsed) animals. Edward is the better looking of the two, and I have contemplated selling the other male (2 points if you can guess his name ☺), a few people have asked me if they could get it.

Of the 18 from last years breeding I kept 2, 3 went to Dave and the rest where randomly sold off at expos. I am hopeful that she was bred this year to Buddy, an unrelated male in my collection. However, I haven’t seen the breeding/gravid signs I would like to have. I am still hopeful.
