Breeding!!!

Or lack off.
Ive got heaps of animals paired up, and nobody wants to do anything. Well not as a couple anyway. Many of the girls, are opening up their vents etc, when the males are put in, and then others where the male is trying, the females want none of it.
The only pair i have seen copulations from is my anery x anery breeding. This is my unproven line of anerys/yellow phase animals. This breeding will hopefully give me the answers i want, and i have also put the male in with my biggest female normal, to try and produce hets, if the other clutch does show it as genetic. If he keeps his breeding up, i will also probably put him in with a virgin hypo female. Best case scenario is DH's, worst is new blood into the hypo line from a very dark animal
So i guess not is all lost They are 07 animals, and this is their first attempt.
Otherwise most cages look like this, just snakes laying around. Im not too fussed though. I get married this year, and moving into a bigger house etc etc. Giving a few of my females an extra year, and not having babies born while im sitting on a beach in Hawaii also has its plusses

And seeing RainbowsByDesigns Eclipse in the post below, i thought i would post the opposite

Dave,

I like that one!!! Keep me posted, if you get any off spring that looks like that... If mine is an eclipsed phase we (you) could call that one a full moon

Here is a link to one of the siblings.

im not sure if the colour is actually genetic. But i think the pattern might be,
or at least line bred.
There were 2 hypo looking babies in the clutch, and i purchased a 2.5 group from the
breeder. I will pair them all up next season, and hope to also pair my pearl male with one of the girls.
If the hypo proves out great, but i really just bought them for the pattern.

Unfortunately i never sleep anyway, so im often down in the snake room at all hours. The plus of never sleeping, is i do get to see most of my snakes out cruising. Walk in here, during the day, and your lucky to see anything moving.
Yeah im really keen to see what happens with this pair. I dont know if they would technically be classed as anerytheristic, but ive got a very strong hunch im working with something recessive here. Thats why im trying both the visual to visual, and visual to normal. It should give me some answers. I also have a few of their female normal looking siblings (which would be 66% poss hets, if this truly is recessive). But they havent really been eating the best lately, and didnt quite get up to the weights i wanted. So they can wait until next year.

One word - patience!

Most of my pairings have not shown any activity yet. Typical for my climate and matches my previous years records. I am already starting to see an increase in activity but am not anticipating high numbers of visual hookups for another two - four weeks. Also as usual I have one pair that is done, she's approaching her POS now and should be my first litter of the year. For me in my climate I expect all visual breeding activity to be done by mid May. One thought is you may need to work out different timing for your climate?? It may take longer or you may need to try earlier next year. Only time will tell, just keep them together, separate to feed and get them back together.

Also, I check mine often as well and sometimes I see no visual signs of breeding except what looks like a gravid female and babies showing up 107-ish days after a shed.

Back in 2007 Mike Lockwood had one of my females on breeding loan, thought she looked ready and put a male with her for one day. In hind sight it must have been the right day - 17 babies.

cheers for the info Dave
as for climate, well its still snowing here.
although spring is on its way. I think it hit 1 celsius today

its weird this year though, im really not that concerned if nothing goes
purely because of the whole marriage, house buying, and honeymoon to deal with

that said, i wont be able to help myself, by still pairing stuff up;

cheers

Congrats on your 'anery' project pair hooking up! I'm anxious to see what those produce. Hopefully the others will come around, or perhaps they are just being sneaky. Love that first pic of the two heads. Your extreme blush is looking great too!
