Are males bigger then females?

joann42 Mar 25, 2011 10:44 AM

Okay so they havent been probed yet.But the one with the wider tail is bigger and the one with the skinny long tail is smaller. But since Im used to the whole boa female being twice the size of the male it seems strange that the male would be bigger. Also do they both have spurs?I havent seen any but on the shed of one is tiny spur looking things at the vent.

You won't find the size difference in your Pits that you would with your boas. A number of factors can be involved in the growth rates.

Those aren't spurs on your shed skin. But it's good way to tell the boys from the girls without probing. The hemipenes also shed as your males mature.

A photo of a male corn snake (still a colubrid like the pituophis) with the shed hemipenises.

Thats exactly what it looks like but a bit smaller. They do look like spurs.
Thanks so much I will be confident in the assumptions that at least one is a male.I hope the other is a female as it was an expo and who knows what they will sell you.I got the pair for 60 bucks and am happy with them either way.
