2011 zonata pairings (Part 3)

zonatahunt Mar 25, 2011 03:55 PM

Continued from Part 2

The following photos are females from my first white-head population that have not yet produced follicles, but soon will. Pairings will ensue.

This last girl is from Ventura Co.. She's from a locale that is simply not represented in the zonata world. I love her.

Now, it's obvious that I should have an abundance of hatchling zonata. Because I'm a California resident, all of the animals you've seen in this post and the previous two are part of my non-commercial permit. I am only allowed to keep thirty captive-bred snakes on my permit. My wife also has a permit, so our household is allowed to keep up to sixty captive-bred animals.

My only concern Mitch for you is that generally when people get something for free, they don't or won't appreciate it since they have nothing invested in the animal. The other concern is that you can almost guarantee that some of the animals that you gift away will end up getting sold and enter the commercial trade. It's just human nature.

Awesome animals.

Allan,

I agree with both points of concern. You are right, most people who are not invested in something simply don't appreciate it. The best example I have for this is how flippant people are with divulging delicate locality information. It's now commonplace for someone to say "I want to find so and so" and next thing you know that information is simply emailed to them. They didn't earn it, they have no investment, and many times they leave the environment thrashed because they don't respect the animal, habitat, or information that was simply gifted to them. Yes, I understand your concern. However, some people truly do love the animal for the animal, and you can tell the brown-nosers from the ones who generally love the animal. As for some of these winding up on the commercial market, yes, that might happen, but if it does I would have no problem providing the DF&G with their name and information. These are gifts, meant to be gifts to someone else if the original recipient ever tires of them. If they become anything more, then that person abused the trust given to them, and, as I said I would have no problem handing their information over to law enforcement. Greed is prevalent, but I can try to keep it away if at all possible.

Okay, while I meant what I said....I did so way to harshly and with too much of a serious tone. To date I have never called law enforcement on anyone, and I'd like to think I'd never have to do so. What I simply meant to say was this...."Karma, Dude! Enjoy the gift, and if you ever tire of it reciprocate Karma and gift to another!!!!" Yeah, that's what I wanted to say!

Mitch

You have an amazing collection of zonata. Wow they are all awesome. I particularly like the coast animals but they are all insane.

And the fact that you are gifting them to folks is unbelievable as well!

Good talking with you yesterday - we'll catch up again soon.
