TOS WARNING Gifting-Free to good homes

PHFaust Mar 26, 2011 06:41 AM

There has been a trend today to discuss gifting of snakes and plans and such.

This is against TOS.

Advertising, except for events, is not allowed in the discussion forums, photo galleries, or chat rooms. The intention behind this rule is to keep commercial transactions off our discussion forums, photo galleries, or chat rooms and not to prevent our users from sharing useful resources with each other.

"Advertising" generally means the solicitation or statement that you have animals and/or items that are for sale, trade, wanted, free/being given away, stud service, or for adoption. Advertising also covers promotion of websites, newsletters, products, etc. We have an extensive classifieds area to meet your advertising needs and posts of that nature belong there. I

Now since this is a group of regular members and not coming from some newbie, I also suspect there is something else going on. Really I do NOT like to delete posts, but advertising is my biggie that I will do it on. However we are now also crossing the lines into trolling.

The discussion of gifting snakes will end now.

So you think this may be bogus?

So you think thats what she said????????

reread the post several times, then take deep breaths until your heartrate lowers. Then reread again, hahahahahahahahahaha

This site has other areas that cover, those things, gifting, selling, trading, adopting, etc. She said, it belongs in those areas, not here.

Also, that poster did indeed mention selling(at a low price) as his wife would not allow him giving them away(smart wife)

The question I have is, why would he feel compalled to give away offspring just because someone gave him the adults.

The cost is not in the purchase of animals, its in the housing, and upkeep. Therefore, its the same whether you purchased the founders or they were given to you, or you caught them.

Particularly colubrids, which are no longer profitable. You may pay for the cost of food and water, but there is no profit to be made.(colubrids, such as Z's) of course some morphs or other rare species and generate some income.

I guess that could have been the conditions of the gifts, then they really aren't gifts.

I'm a regular here and since when is a gift "commercial"? I was sincere with my post of "free zonata" with no other intentions. If this is against the TOS then I'll re-word it.

Maybe there is some cost involved; i.e. the shipping, unless one lives close enough to the gifter to just go to his home. So the snake would not be totally free, as it would seem only fair that the giftee pick up on the shipping.
Anyway, what a nice thing to do with these zonatas to take the pressure off the wild populations.

I wouldn't take it personally. The admin is just trying to keep people who support the site by paying for the privilege to advertise happy. Posting give aways here could take away their potential sales.

Paul Lynum Mar 26, 2011 10:51 AM

HeavenHell, I understand. Then if it pleases the moderator and the commercial dealers who pay for their animals to be listed for sale or free, I will buy an add space when I get eggs and advertise them as I will have other animals (Not zonata) for sale myself. Didn't mean to stir anything up. I was just trying to do something nice.

Sincerely,

Paul Lynum

Paul,

I don't know which i admire more: your generosity, or your willingness to agree to an alternate--and acceptable--plan without blowing this up into an unneeded confrontation on the forum. Well played.

Rick's point lower in the thread, about the zonata sites, is a good one and i hope we see action on it if it also violates the TOS.

PHFaust Mar 26, 2011 11:41 AM

The TOS has been active on our site since well before I was here and running things

Once again in case you need me to re-illustrate things. Here again is the excerpt from our terms of service. Rewording will not change anything. Any discussions regarding this will be removed. Continual posting will result in actions against accounts.

I am by far a very tolerant person and have been excessively fair, but we in fact have a classified section and that is where any and all animal exchanges, no matter the cost of the animal, is required to take place.

If you have any questions email me DIRECTLY at phfaust@pethobbyist.com

I would feel a lot better about this action if there currently wasn't an advertisement in the Mountain Kingsnakes classifieds section running as a wanted ad for all zonata locales in clear violation of the TOS. Further this ad has been running for over a month at least.

Then hit the report button to bring it to the attention of the classified staff. Plain and simple.

I tried that once and it didn't work so good. I reported a California Kingsnake ad that was running in the Graybanded Kingsnake section. I was upset because I specialized in graybands and quite a few off topic(for lack of a better term) ads for thayeri and other mexicana sp. had been sneaking in and cluttering it up. I could tolerate the mexicana ads because graybands actually used to be considered part of the mexicana group. But when I saw the Cal King ad it was kinda the last straw and I reported it. What happened then was all my graybanded kingsnake ads got deleted from the graybanded kingsnake section and they let the Cal King ad stay- go figure. Well eventually I got them to let me put my graybanded ads back up but they never did take down the Cal King ad and it ran for about 1 more week.
That was years ago and it doesn't matter anymore as I no longer sell anything to the public.

In case my point was not obvious it was, tread with caution when reporting stuff.

I believe it, Aaron. I've heard more horror story's about moderators on this site than all other forum web sites I visit. I've even been temporarily banned, a couple of times, from this forum for not agreeing with a certain member here. Like the mod is his best friend or something. I'll probably get banned for this too. lol
