Bulls Get Bigger Moss Hide

pyromaniac Mar 27, 2011 05:51 PM

Last July; a fine fit.

Oof! Getting a little too tight in here recently!

Our new digs! Today they came out and asked to eat, so while they were out I gave them an upgrade in facilities. It was an instant hit!

The box that covers the moist sphagnum moss hide. The hide sits on top of the heating pad, with a bread cooling rack between the hide and the floor of the cage for heat ventilation. They live in a 2 x 4 x 2 foot screen cage. I used to have the moss hide under a box in the cool end of the cage but they would want to be in it even though it was not warm enough for digestion. When the weather warms up I'll give them another moss hide in the cool end.

Good job Bob! ...regarding the bread-cooling rack. In my tanks I've used a floor size piece of peg board to prevent direct exposure to the glass above the UTH. It has worked out well. ...just another idea.

Thanks!
The way I have to have the heating pad installed in the screen cage I am afraid peg board would not give enough air flow for ventilation like the bread rack. But that is a good idea for when the heater is under the glass of a glass tank. A thing I use over the heaters in glass tanks is some terra cotta plant saucers which hold and disperse the heat nicely.

Pyros on the top saucer.

Pacifics in the bottom saucer. The bottom saucer is a bit hard to see through the aspen they drag in. The saucer off to the side is to prop up a space between the sandwiched saucers.
(Not in the same cage, of course! LOL!)
