Grass growing out of the soil!

Ppk Sep 28, 2003 05:29 PM

I've been misting my sav's enclosure daily to keep the humidity up. I do this when it comes time to shed, which its just about since hes turning grayish. Today when I was misting him, I noticed about 3-4 blades of grass. Then I noticed about 3 3 leaf clovers. Eh? Where did this come from? Its not a problem I just would like to know if it is safe and all and why its happening. This is organic soil and what not (no chemicals what so ever).

Hey Ppk, Just pull the grass out all the way, roots included. Hey, I live on a couple of acres and spend half my life pulling out grass from the driveway, weeds from the grass etc. I really dont think it's anything to worry about. I'm sure some pot growers would love to know what kind of lighting your using.

Ha, that is true. I am using UVA floods (75 watts) and some regular 75 watt floods.

Read the Monitor basics, Part 5, pay particular attention to the last sentence.

You should not need to mist to keep the humidity up. I think your problem has to do with excess heat and ventilation, which I believe is a common mistake (I have done it). Close up most the ventilation and cut down the wattage appropriately.

For comparison sake, I get all the heat for an inside 6.5x2.x5x3 enclosure from two 50w floodlamps turned down to 75% or so, this provides a 140F basking spot and reasonable ambients. This is also very similiar to some garage enclosures, 4x6x5 and 4x5x5, although they have thermostatically driven additional heat for the 'cold' nights.

Good Luck,
