...farm raised Bci and Bcc....

globalsnakes Mar 27, 2011 11:26 PM

What can I say, they("farm raised" Bci and Bcc) are all over the internet!....please understand I have no boas for sale, so I'm not biased!...these "farm raised" boas come with lots of issues, and they are not THAT much lower in price than US CB boas!???...so those that are selling them, have a GIANT mark up/profit margin!...if you are pre-pared to spend money at the vet, or potentially loose your purchase do to parasites, nematodes, etc....you have been warned!...There are US CB boas for sale NOW and more WILL be in the next 4-6 weeks that ARE so much more worth your money/passion/time!!!...again, I don't have ANY boas for sale at this time....so, that should tell you alot about my advise.-Thanks, Charlie

And it doesn't help that retailers/show vendors would rather buy cheap imports to make a few extra bucks rather than sell better quality animals while promoting local economies. I'm not against imports, but I'm against opening the box for the first time as you're setting up at a show. I used to occasionally vend and I had everything at least long enough to get one treatment for parasites in them, and know that things were feeding.

SOme times its a good opportunity to get some new blood.... Especially with boas like Peruvians that arent WC and exported anymore.... But for the most part these farmed bcc just bottom out the market... and people start to think that we should all sell bcc for 150$

I agree Marc that some new blood coming in is great, but not the #s that have been and that are in the US now.

I have been to a number of the facilties in SA(Guyana, Colombia, and Peru) and seen the conditions the "farm-raised boas" are kept in and the numbers in small chicken-wire enclousures on the wet ground. At that point, they are not "clean" boas. By then they are as invested as WC.

Let alone how they are shipped.

The amount the US dealers are paying for them after ALL their costs to import is still extremely low compared to the price that they are sold for.

The fact that there are thousands of US boas bred in the US, you'd think those dealers would attempt to purchase/support US captive-bred stock....but they are too greedy and know they can get "farm-raised" way cheaper.
