Hello all! I am required to do a project for my sociology class and I was wondering if you could help me. I have to get 100 opinions on the following subject:

Which immigrant group is (in your opinion) most beneficial to America?

Which immigrant group is (in your opinion) most detrimental to America?

Thanks!

Asking for that on an open forum is like asking for a flame war.

Some would say the immigrant group most beneficial to America would be the Beatles while others would say the rolling stones.
As a Eurometal guitarist I would be more inclined to a 3-way tie between Deep Purple The Scorpions or UFO. Knowing the unacknowledged impact that Michael Schenker had on Eddie VanHalen and Randy Rhoads and the subsequent impact those two guitarists had on Guitar playing in America I would therefore have to say UFO is in my opinion the immigrant group most beneficial to America.
As far as the immigrant group most detrimental to America I really cannot decide between the spice girls or Oasis. With liberal draft-dodging college professors coming in at a close second.

Sorry dude AC/DC all the way for number 1. As for the worst how about the guy from Kenya you know,... Obama!

Calparsoni Apr 05, 2011 05:18 PM

Good argument for AC/DC as they are from Australia and are in fact and immigrant group. However on the other end Obama is just one person and therefore not an immigrant group per se he's just an immigrant and an idiot (synonymous with politician).

Does anybody realize how much fun it is to read this?

NOT ! It was played here first by Berry, Phil and Don. Americans! Play any early Beatles and then play Berry and/or the Everly Bros. All metal heads did was turn down the drums, played faster louder and longer! How did I get on the music forum ? FLASHBACK! Tell me, WHO are you! Koo koo ka choo! joe6pax rockologist.*disclaimer "no offence just blow'in smoke,as I know metal heads are big mean and inked up.

psweeny Apr 05, 2011 02:04 PM

I don't have a single tattoo. I am big but only mean when provoked beyond my ability to take any more crap. LOL But I do love metal and HOTS!

Hay thats cool,I was actully talking to the other guy that brought up the Beatles but as you can see something has effected my brain! Must have been something I ate in the 70's! I'm old school, started on my way to first grade in my Dads 53 Chevy on the AM "Colored Radio"station (thats what it was called then) It drove him crazy but Berry, Little Richard, Smoky, Drifters.....and then Elvis, I was hooked for life. The new guy in town now is Joe Bonomassa. Hes been on Public Radio, check'em out, hes the new influence lately, hes already rubbed off on T.Petty's new Mojo. Did I mention I always wanted to be a music critic! It was Steffenwolf in the early 70's that coined the fraze "Heavy Metal" Thunder, in Magic carpet ride. "Rock on" L.Reed. Now if we could just get CSNY to sing about the "gov.intervention in Reptile keepers"(see Cindy it is about reptiles),maybe we,ed (no pun intended) get somewhere. when I lived north of Utica N.Y. in the late 80's and early 90's I can remember dropping into this little music store in east Utica called Nicotera's on Saturdays to pick up strings and try out new stuff. I can not even begin to tell you how many times I dropped in and Art Nicotera or his daughter would tell me how I just missed their friend's son (the friend would be hanging out there as well.) who at the time was like 10 -12 years old and how well he could play guitar. At that time he was known locally as "smokin' Joe Bonamassa". I always managed to just miss seeing him play and I guess he tended to hang much more over at Peate's music on Genessee st. and I never went there as much as I did to Nicoteras or big apple in New Hartford.
It is amazing to see how far he has come since those days. I looked him up on wikipedia one day and it mentioned that his parents owned a music store but didn't mention which one. I am dying to know which one as I knew them all in the area I am not sure if his parents were silent partners in Nicoteras or if maybe they actually owned Peates music or if it was one of the other lesser known music stores.
