Newbie questions

Ok,

I have a 20gal tall setup currently. It has a small waterfall will a little pool no deeper than 1/4 in. The temps get into the mid 70s during the day and around 70 at night. There are a few plants in there and I'm going to get some sm pothos. I am also on the lookout for some moss. Should I go with live or artifical?

I want to get a few darts at the NARBC in Chicago. What are the best reasonably priced beginner darts?

I started with leucomelas and I was very happy with my desicion, the standard starter for awhile has been auratus but I think leucomelas are a better starter frog because they are bolder and more colorful. I know have 2 auratus morphs and I enjoy them but I am still glad I started off with leucomelas. Leucomelas are about 40 dollars, aurarus are range from 20-40, regular green and black are about 20 and the blue are about 40. Other good starters are azureus and tinctorious, but they can be territorial, azureus are 50 and tinctorious range from 50-150 depending on morph. I think alot of other people on here will also recommend leucomelas as a starter frog. Going back to the territorial thing, you could only keep a pair of azureus or tinctorious together because of fighting. Leucomelas can be kept in groups, i have 3 in a 20 gallon high(2 females 1 male). Be warned that dart frogs are addictive, as you can see from my list below, I started keeping darts only a year ago.

PLANTS: go with live plants; as they help keep humidity up, help to breakdown wastes, and

FROGS: i started off with auratus and tincs, then shotly after i got some leucomelas and mint terribilis. i think any of these are good starter frogs. but i really think that the Phyllobates species may be a better starter frog. they are all bold and easy to monitor. but more importantly they will eat larger prey, so feeding isn't as hard. thats just my take on it. they (Phyllobates) range from the $35-$50 as froglets depending on the species and morph.

goodluck, and beware... it is an addictive hobby/passion

yeah, and after the addictiveness(is that a word?) of frogs starts to ebb - the addiction to rare and exotic plants sets in. Right Dave?

Donn,

My girlfriend must really love me to put up with the frogs, the plants, fluorescent lights glowing at all hours of the day, etc. Although, without her creative genious and knowhow, the tanks would not look as good as they do.

The addiction is horrible. I've had it for many years. My most recent black hole of the hobby has been literature. In the past month I've spend $500. Traveling to see them is by far the worst of them all though. However, it is the most rewarding. The whole terrarium hobby is intertwined, and the plant side has been gaining interest for years with me as well. We even had permits to bring stuff back from CR, but that's another story...
Best,
Justin
