Is it safe to use Kay-Kob bedding for milk snakes and Rosy Boas?
Anyone ever tried or is using it? I use Sani Chips but just wondering how or if it works.

Thanks,
Jon

My nephew used it for his burms and after a week it smelled like urine flavored popcorn. Other than that, it was awesome!

it molds up REALLY quickly....we used cob back in the late late 90's.....actually for big burm I did...and it sucked bigtime...clumped, stank, molded, and it was "said to swell when ingested"....don't know if it was true or not....didn;t wait....

we also used pure grey cat litter for big burms for awhile around here....also...floor tiles /linoleum....no paper...or with paper....

Kay-Kob is fine for dry cages with screen top ventilation, and therefore fine for adult rosyboas. I would stick to Sani-Chips for babies. Reason being that the cobs swell if ingested, and perhaps a baby rosy might have a problem if it eats some (probably not but no harm in being safe). Adults can pass them. I know, I used to use it with rosies and kings and gophersnakes years ago. The snakes would at some point swallow some with their meal. Never had an issue from it.

BTW, San-Chip is perhaps one of the best rosyboa substrates out there (that is a wood product). I don't think Kay-Kob is any better, but it is cheaper and readily available. It also does seem to conduct heat well.

If it gets wet it molds very quickly. Should not happen in a rosy cage.

Mark,
I tried it last night the friend who was selling it gave me a free bag to try out. I have to say I don't really like it. I think I am going to stick to the Sani Chips. I keep way to many snakes to switch to something I am not 100% about. Thanks for the info.
