My friend Herb uses this corn cob type bedding for all his snakes. He has all sorts of snakes, and they all seem to do well on it. I have heard if it gets wet it is more prone to mold than aspen.

Bob thank you. I use Sani Chips but found a great deal on this Kay-Kob stuff. I like Sani chips but don't love them. It seems like it does a poor job with odor control and for a large collection that's not good. I wanna see how well these corn stuff does. Again thanks.

Don't expect much odor control with the KayKob either. But it is very absorbent and easier to spot clean than aspen. As Bob said it does mold very quickly when wet.

back in the day, it used to be the stuff of choice for most herpers. I used it when I first started keeping snakes. Then the word started going around that it could cause impaction if swallowed because it sweels in the gut. I stopped using it, but I never really had a problem with it. I feed all my snakes in paper bags so there's no chance they would swallow anything anyhow. Still I do remember moldy corners where the water bowls would spill over or get tipped.

Yeah, I experienced all those things with it too when I used it many years ago. I didn't have a problem with it personally, but I made sure that the few snakes that used it, I made sure none of it got ingested, and kept a close eye on any of it that got wet.
