Pre-lay shed question

pyromaniac Mar 30, 2011 08:48 PM

My pyro Dotz mated in early March, possibly as early as the 2nd of March. She mated several times over the next three weeks. On the 23rd she seemed done with mating so I put her in her maternity tub. Today, March 30th I see she is in blue and has taken to nesting in her moss hide. Could this be the pre-lay shed cycle?

Dotz today in her moss hide.

Thanks! I already have my home made reptile egg incubator set up (hatched several clutches of fence lizards over the years)so all I have to do is put the eggs in some perlite and wait for the babies.

Dotz looks like she's ripening up nicely Bob. I'm sure you must be excited. Best of luck and can't wait to see some egg pics.

Thanks! I am glad I already had the maternity tubs with all the amenities set up in advance. I thought she would take longer to commence this shed. I didn't want to leave her in with her mate as she seemed to be wanting peace and quiet after all that mating action.

Congratulations Bob. Dotz looks great. She is definitely in her pre-lay shed. The vast majority of the time they lay right on 10 days after the shed. Wishing you the best. I've had a pair of lav. cal. kings breed first so far, then some corns, now my honduran milks are mating. Should be an exciting year for me too.

Thanks! This whole process is proceeding much faster than I had expected. Now I am waiting on her sister and mate to finish up mating so I can put the sister in her own maternity tub, and give my male a much needed rest! LOL! Because of the timing which was unintentional on my part, more the snakes' readiness, the two clutches will hatch out a few weeks apart. That will be very nice for me, as I will have only one bunch of babies at a time to get started feeding.
