id that snake

I found a baby garner/ribbon snake and it has 3 stripes the middle 1 is brownish red color and the others are yellow the color in between the stripes are black and his belly is yellow with a green tint and he has a single yellow spot on his head.

I found him in oklahoma near a pondeating a cricket frog.

Sounds like a ribbon snake, thamnophis proximus, but I don't have my guide here to see the ranges. Andy

That's probably a Western Ribbon snake. They're fairly common around here (I'm in central OK), more so than the Red-sided Garter snake. Ribbons tend to be very slender relative to garters, their lateral (side) stripes are on scale rows 3 and 4 (vs. 2 and 3 on Red-sided garters), and the garters usually show at least some amount of pattern in the dark areas between the stripes. The single spot on the top of the head also is a trademark of the Western Ribbon.
