Little something we hatched this week.

RatTrapReptiles Apr 01, 2011 06:43 AM

On Jan 25 we were lucky to get an early unexpected clutch from one of our Yellowbelly females. It was so early in the breeding we werent even looking for ovulations or anything. We dont usually get eggs till april. Anyhow she was bred to our het puma male. out of 4 eggs we got 1 puma. One egg was doomed from the start, it had a large wet window spot on it and we fought off mold with antifungal powder. The little guy made it full term but upon inspection it was severly deformed, and died shortly after hatching. Aside from that I can tell you that we are very thrilled to have hatched this little gem and look forward to maybe hatching a few more this season. This picture was taken 3 days out of the egg.

So is a het puma a spector/whirwind?

Congrats on the Puma! Sweet stuff right there, and no a Het Puma is not a specter. Specters make Super Stripes when bred to a Yellowbelly, Het Pumas make Pumas when bred to a yellowbelly. Just like a Lesser isn't a mojave just because they both make white snakes.

What anti fungal powder do you use...and have you had success with it in the past?

"What anti fungal powder do you use...and have you had success with it in the past?"

We used the Dr scholls brand but I would think any anifungal powder will work. We just use a q-tip to apply the powder and remove any sign of mold at the same time. We have hatched several healthy snakes out of worse looking eggs, so we didnt think much of it at the time. This method has worked well for us and this is the only time we had a not so happy ending.
