does anyone know of a safe soil mix for red-eyes?

Red-eye_Matt Feb 08, 2003 12:09 PM

I have a bunch of live plants (prayer plant, rubber plant, marble pothos, wax plant, and parlor palm)that I want to put in their tank (they are not in it yet). Does anyone know of a sfe soil type that I could use in the plant pots (and the soil will be covered with a mix of cypress mulch/moss)?

Thanks

bed-a-beast mixed with the bark mulch and some composted leaves if possible. basic compost is ok too. what kind of moss? the dried spanish moss? don't use that. crickets hide in it. you always end up overwatering too. if you are using live moss I wouldn't do that either. rarely grows in a terrarium. will have to replace it every few months and the crickets will hide under that too. if you are worried about the frog getting dirty, just use some river rock (not gravel) in the high traffic areas. frog should not be on the ground much anyway. driftwood and the plants should give frog a path from his favorite hiding place to the water. one other hint- if you have some cork bark glued to the back wall the frog will hide behind it.

It's dried sheet moss . . . I also use if for my fire bellied toads and i push is down so that the crickets can't hide in it. . . but you're saying that the plants should grow fine in the mulch with bed-a-beast mixed in? Would I need any type of fertizer as I don't have any leaves available?

Thanks for the quick reply

wouldn't worry about fertilizer. as long as your plants are terrarium compatible. snake plants are good. not alot of light is the biggest problem for plants. and I still wouldn't use moss but that's just my opinion.
