New England Reptile Expo

I managed to get there for a few hours yesterday... better show than usual, still way too many Ball Pythons but a diverse selection of colubrids as well… including a couple of tables offering milks from Cherry County, did a quick take of the vendors to make sure it wasn’t Cole or Dell behind the table … One vendor had an adult Yellow Tailed Cribo which I managed to get my hands on, first time I've ever seen one... a very impressive animal… if I only had the space and extra cash!

Rob Haneisen was there, managed to grab a sneak peek at his upcoming article on Black Milks in the May issue of Reptiles Magazine… haven’t seen it for sale yet in my local pet shop but I will be buying a copy… looked like a worth while read for all those with Black Milks or for those thinking about picking up one or two.. nice job Rob.

I went to the show just to look around, pick up some cypress mulch and perhaps buy one of those fake rock hides for my BM Jade… glad I didn’t buy one on ebay as I had intended… even the extra large or jumbo would have been tight quarters for her, she might have managed half her bulk in either one of them… looks like I’ll have to make my own…. I did however pick up some fake plants to spruce up her enclosure. After getting home I added the plants… along with a piece of wood recently given to me by a co-worker (the piece of wood was also accompanied by an Anole his son was no longer caring for, lol)… this morning I found Jade comfortably “hiding” in the log and plants, out in the open as is her want… I think the photo proves Rob’s claim that the BM may not only be the best milk out there but my own belief that Jade is the best BM out there … who says milks don't make good display animals... thanks again for her Nate.

That's a great photo there Gerry!, and also it clearly depicts the white skin in between the scales too as opposed to other solid dark snakes like nigrita, melanistic thayeri, etc..that have dark skin.

Yes, I have a copy of Rob's nice gaigeae article, and it was certainly a good read.

Congrats on the article Rob!!

Thanks Doug... think it's a good picture of her myself... but it's rather obvious I'm slightly biased

The very existence of flamethrowers means that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves..."You know, I really want to set those people over there on fire...but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Back when I was 5-6 years old (45 years ago now) my parents had a set of encyclopedias, natural history of the world. The set of encyclopedias was old even then… thinking back on them now they may very well been written by Pliny the Elder himself… the two things I read over and over were the sections on Eastern Indigos and the Giant Gippsland Earthworm of Australia, I wanted one of each as a pet some day… to date I still have neither

Good luck with yours

Gerry

It's the monthly May issue of "Reptiles Magazine". I have a subscription so it gets here way earlier than many stores have them on the racks, so you have PLENTY of time to get one.

It is the issue with a big Amazon Milk Frog on the cover.

The 2011 "Annual" Reptiles mag. has Terry Dunham's Honduran milksnake article in it, and it is on the store racks for the entire year.

enjoy!

It was great seeing you Gerry. It was a really good show. I talked to Bruce Lowder who runs the show and he had over 2,500 paid admissions to the show, not counting all the free kids. It was the most packed I've seen it in the five years I've been a vendor there and Bruce said it was the most people they've ever had come through the doors.
I wish I had a another dozen black milk hatchlings with me at the show. What I had left sold out in about 20 minutes and all day long people kept asking for them. Sold some Hondurans too.
