So what is the new Daytona????

TSUSnakeGuy Apr 05, 2011 08:24 PM

Ok so I figure Daytona is going to fall apart and that has always been my big trip every year. I have always lived in the southeast so that was my big expo to go to. What expo does everyone thing will be the new big one down south. I currently live in Louisiana so what should I plan for this year to go to. I always made the Daytona expo a big trip so I would be glad to find one that I can spend a whole weekend at.

Im in San Diego so Ive never had the chance to make it out to Daytona, my yearly big show has been Anahiem for the last few years. Why is it you think Daytona will fall from its top spot?

TSUSnakeGuy Apr 05, 2011 08:43 PM

This past year is the first time in a while I have missed it but I went last year. For my honeymoon actually and a lot of the big names didn't go. I think it will keep happening and folks will follow those guys somewhere else.

Lagging sales, a horrible location (ie, nothing to do and Daytona is a fairly rundown city), a LOT FEWER vendors, plus new state regs all combine to make sales unlikely and high dollar sales almost impossible. No incentive for the big guys to go anymore.

I took my family last year and couldn't believe how run down Daytona looked. I was very disappointed to say the least. I had to stay within the hotel grounds. The show was great though, but I'm definitely not going back.

I believe Tinley Park Chicago IL., is going to be the "Show that picks Up The Slack" that Daytona is now appearing to leave.

Tinley has been a very good show for years, I believe the central location in the Midwest is a plus.

At this point there are No Restrictions on the animals of course also a Plus.

This all bodes well for the Tinley Park Chicago IL. NARBC Show

I'll be looking forward to seeing everybody there at the show !

I may skip Daytona for the first time in 7 or 8 years, maybe longer...? And I live an hour away.

As long as my finances are in order and there are no financial surprises, I'd LOVE to head up for Tinley. In fact, I'm in Chicago right now on business! lol Wonder if I can get my company to pay for my trip...? lol

Ive been to Daytona and although its nice, I thought it would be better.

I live 15 minutes from the Anaheim show and its getting better every year, this last time they had a Tiger there. Oh and there is plenty to do in the Los Angeles area.

Anaheim was pretty crowded, and with several theme parks, the beach and Los Angeles all within 45 minutes (Disneyland is walking distance)you can't go wrong!

I attended NRBE when it was in Orlando in 1992 went to all thru 1997 and was out till 2006 and been going thru 2010 and will attend this year no doubt. I believe that for a number of factors, Daytona will always be the show To go to and last year was not a good year to base an assessment. Remember we had the fear of the ban, big boa breeders waving the white flag due to personal reasons and fear of future laws, also the horrible economy. Last I heard the hotel screwed up a lot of reservations. Daytona has many flaws but it's a great time. International buyers attend in great numbers but With the advent of web sales and collectors spending year round shows are becoming a social event almost as much as a money making one and some breeders don't feel they need to meet new clients unless they make a dollar number there and then. A mistake in my opinion. The difference between shows back when and now is moreso the purpose they serve, and in my humble opinion it's good to meet and greet not only with the intentions of taking home a wad a cash that weekend but setting up relationships and sales for the course of the year....

Last year at Daytona was a down year for boa enthusiast for sure but i was there and had a wonderful time meeting and hanging out out with new friends Jeff Ronne, Manny (from Perfect Predators) and Dr Warren Booth. The USARK's auction was a lot of fun as well. I was not there to sell anything but to look, plan for the future and support the hobby that i am very passionate about. I live 2 1/2 hours away from Daytona and drove there an back both Sat and Sun and of course i ended up spending some money. I am not sure what the future is for the Daytona show but i will continue to go as long as i can have a good time sharing with friends in hobby / business like i did last year i just wish that some of the other "Big Names" felt the same way.

FYI i did the same thing out in Anaheim last year as well and hung out with Reuben, Anthony and others and that is a bit further a commute for me since i am in Florida but well worth it.

I just received an email from USARK and it sound like we are getting ready for a "Big Fight" so please support them as they are working hard to protect out rights to keep and breed the animals that we all love.

That just my 2 cents for what ever it is worth!

Lucas
