hearing and vocalizing in snakes

deepblue Apr 06, 2011 03:28 AM

Are any of you guys familiar with a man named Luke Yeomans? He lives in the UK and does research on King Cobras. He has proven that Kings can hear airborne sound and can also "growl" lol. Yes the King Cobra has vocal chords. Maybe you guys are already familiar with his work but it is facsinating to me. The Kings are the only known species to have this ability to my knowledge. The way this guy handles these snakes is amazing also. His site is kingcobrasanctuary.com, he has some awesome articles and video's there if this interests any of you. Please post your thoughts on this if you would, will make for an interesting discussion I'm sure even if none of us work with these "mensa's" of the snake world lol.

snakes can hear....somehow , someway,,,I know when some have grabbed me, and I screamed or yelled at them, they left go....like the BIG jungle carpet a few times...too many times......

all my snakes freak out when I run a shop vac....

and my friend had a pair of kings a few plus years ago...they huffed and puffed, hissed and growled all the time....he would actually pet them like little puppies from time to time..(not when they go right for you when cage was opened, only when they were in "non-eating" mood)....they ate rats, and did just fine....nice snakes....too large for many rooms....actually I knew three people with them I think....

good luck...have fun....I'll pass this to him....>>>....
